Jeans Care - Remove Crayon Stain From Jeans

The most common cause of crayon stains are from crayons that were left in little ones pockets and then gets washed and dried. The dryer is the problem as the crayons are made of wax and melt into the fibers of the jeans.

There are a few different methods that will remove crayon stains from jeans. You can choose from the following:

1. WD-40 is the recommended treatment by Crayola. You can see the full instructions at the Crayola Site.

2. Either of these formulas work great, and they don't require much effort.

• 1 1/2 cups of Wisk Multi-Action (3x concentrated for High Efficiency)

• 1 1/2 cups of OxyClean Stain Fighter (liquid)

• 1 cup Zout

-OR-

• 1 1/2 cups of Cold Water Tide

• Four (4) scoops of OxyClean

• 1 cup of Spray and Wash

There is no need to pre-treat. Just let the jeans soak in washer for 45 minutes to an hour in HOT water. Wash in regular cycle and the stains should be gone. If your dryer is stained from a crayon, just use some Soft Scrub to remove it.

3. Ironing the crayon stain between layers of paper towels. The theory here is that the wax will melt and soak into the paper towel. The problem with this method is that it still leaves the color stain, although the wax will be gone. Then use a stain remover the residual color stain.
   - I don't recommend this method because it's difficult and the other methods work better.

4. Other products that people have had success with removing crayon stains, and you might already have them on hand:

   • Greased Lightning

   • Goo Gone

   • GoofOff

   • Shout

   • Zout

   • Orange hand cleaner

   • Ronson's Lighter Fluid (follow up with a soap or detergent break down the solvent

   • Lickity Split (by Kirby, the vacuum people)

   • Tide Coldwater (wash in warm water, on heavy duty cycle if you have it

   • 20 Mule Borax (soak for at least 45 minutes, might require two wash cycles to completely remove the crayons
