How To
Make Skinny Jeans -
From Straight or Boot-Cut or Skinny to Skinnier
The hardest part about finding a great pair of skinny jeans, or
any jeans for that matter, is finding the perfect fit. What better way to
transform an ill fitting pair of jeans that you own, than into a perfect fitting
pair of skinny jeans.
While this can be done with most any cut of jeans, this
particular method works best with straight leg jeans or boot-cut jeans. For
wide leg or flare leg jeans I recommend using the same method, but also
altering the outside of the legs as well.
What You Will Need To Alter Your Jeans:
-
A pair of jeans
-
Preferably a sewing machine, but it can be done with
needle and thread. It's best to use a good strong thread that matches as
closely as possible to the thread in the jeans.
-
Washable tailoring chalk, crayon, or marker.
-
Straight Pins.
-
Scissors.
-
A full length mirror.
Alter Your Jeans:
-
Turn the jeans inside out and then put them on. You
will keep them inside out until they're finished.
-
Turn up the bottom hem of a pant leg and find the flat
seam. That's the seam that's between you legs, not the one that's on the
sides of your legs. This is the seam that you'll be altering.
-
Pull the bottoms of the pants legs for desired
tightness.
-
While standing, draw a line down each of the pants legs
to mark where the new seam will be.
-
Take the jeans off and place the straight pins every
few inches along the lines you just drew.
-
Put the jeans back on and try them for comfort, look
and fit by moving around in them as much as you can. Check the mirror to
make sure there are no bulges and the pinned lines are straight. Remark
your lines as necessary.
-
Repeat steps 4 -7 until you have the desired look and
fit.
-
Take out the straight pins and sew along the lines that
you marked. You can do this be hand or with a sewing machine. Make the
stitches as close, tight and neat as possible.
-
Sew over each of the new seams once again to strengthen
it and make sure that it's secure.
-
If there is more than an inch of excess material, cut
it off.
That's it, you now have great pair of skinny jeans altered to fit you
perfectly!
